I'm testing out an IMAP connection from Outlook to KMS. When I go to delete messages, I see them lined and greyed out in Outlook and in Webmail. How or when do these get removed and moved to Deleted Items folder?

This is how the IMAP model works. Programs like Thunderbird disguise this by hiding them, Outlook is not a very good IMAP client.

These lines mean that the messages are not really deleted until they are "purged."

There are several ways to handle this.

1.

Make it easier to "purge" in Outlook by creating a "Purge" button. Select the Inbox under your IMAP account (not the PST file). Open Tools-->Customize, then choose "Edit." Now drag the item "Purge Deleted Messages" to the toolbar. Now, you can rename the button so it is smaller on the toolbar. Just call it "Purge" instead.

2.

Make the striked out email invisible. First, select the Inbox folder from the IMAP account in Outlook. Select View-->Arrange By-->Current View-->Define Views. In the pop-up window, choose "IMAP Messages" then "Modify" then choose "filter..." Under "Advanced" where it says "Field" type in "IMAP Status" then change "Condition" to "equals" then choose "OK." Choose "Yes" if it asks if you want to add these settings to your search. Now messages marked for deletion will appear in Webmail and can still be purged, but will not appear in your IMAP folders.
