i have the situation that all our public contacts disappeared suddenly. i currently don't know why. could be a user or a bug in entourage/kms/outlook somewhere.

i have backups i made to a tape and also kms backups in

the way i understand is that using kmsrecover i can only restore all folders at once and not a single folder, in this case

/usr/local/kerio/mailserver/store/mail/ ntacts

can I just stop kms and restore that folder from my tape? or would it be wiser to untar the backup from /usr/local/kerio/mailserver/store/backup
and then copy that respective folder via filesystem to

if i understand correctly there is no easy way in kms to recover single messages either. how would you go about that?

running kms 6.3.1 on mac os x 10.3.9

Kmsrecover utility is intended for emergency recovery. Running this utility will overwrite whole mailstore with data from backup!

The easiest way is to unzip proper .zip file from full backup (file with public contact folder and replace current public folder with extracted one (don't forget to keep correct timestamps on files).

This thread should be updated to reflect that kmsrecover is useful for restoring individual users and or their folders. See er.html

I'm still not sure that what Pavel recommends isn't the best way to handle public folders as kmsrecover seems to be all or nothing with the -m public flag. If there is a better way, that manual page should be updated.
