I was having a problem installing the Kerio Synchronization Plugin (KSP) on NON-admin users on Vista. As you know KSP must be installed for each user wishing to utilize its features.

When I attempted the install as the NON-admin user I got a dialog with the following error: “Error opening installation log file. Verify that the specified log file location exists and is writable.”

If I attempted to install KSP while logged in as the non-admin user but with the “Run as Administrator” option KSP acted as if I was running the program as the actual administrator user as opposed to “Running with administrator privileges.”

I also tried to open up the access to all the temp folders that may be causing the problem. A google search suggests that many users have this problem on MS OS’s (not just vista) and that expanding the permissions will solve the problem. I tried giving all users full access to the Kerio programs directory and the windows temp directory with no luck.

Finally I changed the non-admin user to an admin user, installed KSP, made sure it worked, changed the user back to a “standard” user, and again verified that the KSP add-on worked properly.

All is well.
