A friend of mine (over 50miles away) has encountered a problem on his computer after wrongly installing winroute firewall when he was after kerio personal firewall and now he can no longer connect to the internet. He uninstalled the program and still is not able to connect to the internet. He is on BT Broadband (incase it affects the cure) and the worm he is trying to get under control is W32.Blaster.Worm or a variant of it (possible the newer "Backdoor TCP" one). We have managed to stop the worm from shutting down the computer with that "60 second" authority warning but obviously he needs to get the windows update for this issue and also get the symantic fix downloaded to cure this worm, which is quite a problem since this kerio winroute firewall of yours just stopped all traffic (even after uninstall).

Please help, we are sinking faster and faster here, we have already spent 19 hours fighting off trojans of many different names, malware (smithfraud or something like that, amongst others), viruses (3) and this worm. We got all but this worm dealt with.

We are using AVG anti-virus, AVG anti-spywar, Spybots S&D and so many other fixes and programs for finding things that i have lost count. If you could offer any help with this problem as well as the fix for the internet connection problem caused by your program then i would greatly appreciate it.

right... not your program. But we have found the name of the file that was blocking us accessing hte web and temporarly stopped it affecting us by shutting the process tree down in task manager.

The name of the file is "MOTIVE~1.exe"

does anyone know if the symantic fix will get this one out of the registry because the name isn't in the list of app names for the virus.

Thanks for any help and advise.

Why not simply format the machine and start all over? Even if you get the current machine 'cleaned up', there's no way of knowing if something is not still lingering on it. I wouldn't take the chance.
