Hi guys,

I have a user requesting a password on startup of their Outlook email to restrict access to email. The pc is shared occasionally and all other info to be shared, except email. We are using Outlook 2003 with KOC to KMS 6.4.1 .

Is this even possible?

I'm pretty sure Outlook can be configured to not remember the mail account password. In effect, every time you start outlook it will prompt you for the password.

However, if you simply configure user accounts on the workstation, instead of one account for all users, each will get their own Outlook profile. This is probably the more elegant solution. Users will still have access to installed apps, and simply need to be in the habit of saving files to a common network share, or to the "Shared Documents" folder.

Good is better than evil because it's nicer

I do not think the KOC will allow you to not enter the password to make this work as you suggested.

Thanks for the tip re user accounts. In most situations that would be fine, but for the purpose of this issue, the solution is to block outlook with a password.

Any other ideas?

Notes about passwords
You cannot password protect the Outlook program. Security is provided by the operating system through password-protected Windows user accounts.
You can password protect an Outlook Personal Folders file (.pst). Other people who have access to Outlook can open the program, but they can't open the password-protected .pst file. This method is not as secure as using password-protected Windows user accounts.

Thanks for the link.
Pretty much sums it up.
The only solution appears to be to use separate windows user accounts. Outlook without a personal folder .pst cannot have a password.

I had actually posted working code on this site in another post on how to do this. However, you must create separate profiles at the minimum according to Kerio.

Thanks for linking to your post. This is looking promising!

Are you saying this should work with KOC ?

Is this undo'able should it no longer suit?

Sorry for the late response. This was developed for KOC specifically so I sure hope it works for KOC. This change is reversible by simply deleting the code from Outlook VBA. Done deal.
