check how spamassassin scored this message from my hotmail account. what is this AWL and why is it at 7.199 ???
this is just a normal text email from hotmail that said, "this is a test 123" : )
so much hotmail email is getting tagged as spam when it should not be it's insane and it looks like this AWL is the cause of at least THIS one. anyone have a clue as to what this is and how i can remedy this situation?

X-Spam-Status: No, hits=4.5 required=5.0
tests=AWL: 7.199,BAYES_05: -0.925,FORGED_HOTMAIL_RCVD: 2.255,
HTML_MESSAGE: 0.001,CUSTOM_RULE_RECEIVED: -4.00,TOTAL_SCORE: 4.530

AWL is AutoWhiteList which is the database with history of all emails. It tracks sender address and spam score of every email and assigns a spam score based on sender reputation (history of emails). Obviously you have received few spams from this sender therefore all new emails will get high spam score.

The AWL database can be cleaned by removing auto-whitelist.* files from store/spamassassin/bayes directory.

If that is the case then WHY when i removed ALL files in this folder and restarted the kerio server did it block the same message from my hotmail account? here is the folder where i removed all of the files and restarted the server with whatever files get auto-generated.

C:\Program Files\Kerio\MailServer\store\spamassassin\bayes

i mean, just look at how it scored the simple test email from my hotmail account!:

X-Spam-Status: Yes, hits=8.1 required=5.0
tests=AWL: 10.000,FORGED_HOTMAIL_RCVD: 2.152,HTML_MESSAGE: 0.001,
CUSTOM_RULE_RECEIVED: -4.00,TOTAL_SCORE: 8.153
-------------------------------------------------------

okay, update:

one thing to add here that doesn't make sense. why does THIS exist in the scoring of hotmail? :
FORGED_HOTMAIL_RCVD: 2.152

i can understand that if it were true but this DID in fact come from hotmail so that is invalid.

i restarted the kerio server in "services" instead of using the icon in the tray and it didn't give the AWL score. should we always use the services entry to start/stop kerio?

You can try to disable the AWL function in your local.cf file. Just set it to zero.

# Use SDBM for whitelist (AWL module)
auto_whitelist_db_modules SDBM_File
use_auto_whitelist 0

10-4. i'll try that. i really don't like the AWL...far too many false alarms. honestly i think not using that and simply being able to enter your own regular expressions to filter domains and phrases in the text of the body itself is the best way...requires a little work but it works great.
