Kerio allows us to create both aliases and add additional e-mail addresses to a user's account. Is there a reason I would want to use one over the other? Are there any limitations to either method of getting mail addressed to a specific address to different users?

There are small differences. You should think of additional email addresses for a person as being 'actual' email addresses of these persons. Actual in a sense that you want to communicate those addresses to other people, you want the user to be able to send emails with the addresses as 'from' address, etc. Aliasses are simply a way to get certain emails delivered into certain mailboxes, nothing more, nothing less. For example, you cannot send messages with the alias address as from address (from Webmail).

I agree, it's a subtle difference.
