When Kerio proxy turned on Internet access nearly grinds to a halt and is ridiculously slow, however when i turn it off it's fine...?

It's kerio 6.2.3 (they cannot upgrade at present)
I have re-installed Kerio (imported back in confg's)
This is a default Kerio install, two nics one lan/one internet.
I am using kerio proxy ...

Enable -non transparent proxy is ticked using port 3128.
Forward to Parent proxy server is ticked ...server is empty but port is set to 3128 (could that cause a problem????)
Parent proxy server does not need authentication.
There are no url rules.
ISS orange filter is disabled.
The client setings are use a proxy server (ipaddress of proxy server and ports number ))

Has anyone any ideas what might be wrong with my config??
