Our server keeps getting black listed for spamming. I looked at the traffic charts and it looks like once a month, somehow over 1,000 messages go out nearly at the same time. How can I determine who is sending the messages? We have many customers who use our services, so it would be difficult to try and scan every pc of every customer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as well as any other practices to keep from getting blacklisted as well as finding out what lists we are on and how to be removed.

Thanks!
Dan

The email log should be listing out all emails going through the mail server. If they are all coming from the same machine, you would see a bunch of lines like:

[11/Jul/2008 10:18:06] Recv: Queue-ID: 487feb9e-000085dc, Service: SMTP, From: <somone<_a.t_>mydomain.com>, To: <mailreceiver<_a.t_>recipient.com>, Size: 3382, Sender-Host: machinesendingmail.mydomain.org

with many line with the same machinesendingmail.mydomain.org
and somone<_a.t_>mydomain.com but different mailreceiver<_a.t_>recipient.com

It would help if you knew the approximate time this was happeing.

Go to http://www.iptools.com and put your mail server's name in the "Spam DB Lookup" field. Any Blacklists that are not green need to be looked at.
