I've been trying to get Kerberos authentication working for our KMS via Apple's Open Directory. I can successfully kinit to the KDC for a ticket from our mailserver, and the connection test in KMS works fine.

At first, when trying to auth a test user via the web interface, it couldn't find the KDC, and I saw the following DNS queries:

16-Jul-2008 19:30:34.844 client view internal: query: _kerberos._udp.MY.KDC.COM IN SRV +
16-Jul-2008 19:30:34.845 client view internal: query: _kerberos._tcp.MY.KDC.COM IN SRV +
16-Jul-2008 19:30:34.846 client view internal: query: _kerberos-master._udp.MY.KDC.COM IN SRV +
16-Jul-2008 19:30:34.847 client view internal: query: _kerberos-master._tcp.MY.KDC.COM IN SRV +

So I added these SRV recs to DNS. The resolve correctly for the queries now. But now I get the following error in the debug log on Kerio when I try to authenticate a test user from Open Directory:

[16/Jul/2008 17:38:07][2980278272] {auth} Krb5: entering auth (user: test_user<_a.t_>MY.KDC.COM)
[16/Jul/2008 17:38:07][2980278272] {auth} Krb5: get_init_creds_password(krbtgt/MY.KDC.COM<_a.t_>MY.KDC.COM, test_user<_a.t_>MY.KDC.COM): Resource temporarily unavailable, error code 0x00000023 (35)

I don't see the request traverse our network, it doesn't make it to the kdc.

Any ideas? Thanks for any help you can provide.

Okay, it looks like it was a DNS issue, but an interesting one. The Mac OS X Server hosting KMS could see the KDC with dig and lookup, but KMS could not resolv it within the server for some reason. When I restarted KMS, not the server, everything authed fine. Go figure.

Hope that helps someone,
