Hi all,

One of our users is using Thunderbird 2.0 to read his mail by IMAP. He was amazed to see that he gets a small indicator of what percentage of his quota is used at the bottom of the Thunderbird window.

How is Thunderbird working this out? I didn't think IMAP could give this sort of information. Is there any way to get this information in any other mail clients? I don't get it in Seamonkey and the Outlook users don't get it either.

It would be very useful if everybody could have this. For the more responsible users it would help them to manage their quotas and keep things under control. Of course, the less responsible users would still never bother to tidy up but at least I could just point at the indicator saying 100% and tell them it was their own fault.

It's an IMAP protocol extension supported by KMS. Any IMAP client could show the quota information. Unfortunately, most of them (including Outlook) do not support it.
There are plenty of utilities which can check the quota via IMAP (eg. http://www.broobles.com/scripts/imapquotachecker/).

Thanks. A stand alone program is not as nice as having it integrated but it is much better than nothing.

Thunderbird with Lightning is looking like quite a credible system for accessing KMS now it has CalDAV support. The main downside is the pain of setting each bit up right for each service type. I wonder if Kerio has thought of making something like the Outlook Connector to simplify this.
