Hi there,

our KMS needs plenty of time to deliver Emails from one inhouse-user to another. Both have their Accounts on the same KMS, same Domain, same Network. Nevertheless it lasts up to 25 minutes till the email can be read by the receiving user.

The debugging-log shows the following (for instance):
"...
[06/Aug/2008 10:10:10][45013504] {qproc} Queue injection started, id=48995c62-000124c2
...
[06/Aug/2008 10:23:01][47224320] {qproc} SEND_LOCAL: Started delivery of queued message id=48995c62-000124c2 sender=<name<_a.t_>domain.de>
..."

The Queue receives the emails and places them on hold for round about 13 minutes! (in this example)

And ... No! Neither the KMS nor the CPU has more workload than normal.

Anyone any ideas, what is going on here?

I would take a guess that this has something to do with your AV plugin. Check to see if it is working.

Thx for your answer.

Presuming AV means AntiVirus, right?

Okay, the McAfee-Antirus in active and working. As I can see at the security-log it found a virus at 08:33 h and at 12:25 h today.

Does not look like a problem with the AV plugin, does it?

...and the quest goes on Wink

Take a look in your message queue. Are there any 'stuck' messages? try and run them manually if there are to clear the queue.

The message-queue is totally empty at this moment. But right now, I am the first and therefore only staff member who is working (local time 7:22 am Wink).

A testmail I sent just now was received immediately.

Maybe I should look at the message-queue again, when the other colleagues are working too. But I am not very confident, that this would be reason for the delay in this case...

Though thx for your answer again.

Are there still further proposals?

I only saw this behaviour when my mail queue was very full (we got spammed). After clearing the queue from thousands of messages, everything was back to normal again.

Other processes that could delay delivery are AV (which you already checked) and anti-spam. Do you check internal mail for spam? Try to switch that off (under Spam Filter configuration).

Surprise, surprise!

You're were both almost right, freakinvibe and sonofcolin.

There are tons of emails (mostly spam) incoming on our KMS. "Message queue processing" showed me a fixed number of 32 alternating emails, which were simultaneously been checked and filtered (content, spam, virus...).
••• offtopic - by the way: nice percentage display... shows 0% all the time •••
Meanwhile there are lots of emails waiting for processing under "Messages in queue".

After checking cpu- an memory-load of the Mac-PC KMS is running on, I decided to increase the "Maximum number of delivery threads" (look at "SMTP Server" at Tab "Queue Options") from 32 (ahaa! relation! see above Wink) to 128 for now.

And - abracadabra - in no time at all both lists were empty. No emails waiting any more.

It seems the problem has been vanished. I will have a look at it the next days. If it comes back, I will be back here again.

Thx freakinvibe and sonofcolin for your input
