I am using Outlook 2003 (11.8169.8172) SP3 and Kerio Outlook Connector 6.5.2.6426 T0.

For some messages, I get the following message in the Reading Pane: "This item cannot be displayed in the Reading Pane. Open the item to read its contents."

If I try to open the corresponding email, I get the message "Can't open this item. Unknown error."

I removed the email profile, I reinstalled both Office and Outlook Connector, but it did not help.

I tried creating a folder, sharing it and copying problematic emails to it - my fried can display them without any problems.

Any ideas what could be wrong?

The only idea I have is to check the version of Internet Explorer. I've seen weird things like that happen if IE is out of date, since Outlook uses it to display some windows.

I think I had this problem before when Outlook was not emptying the folder it uses in temporary internet files. The folder had gotten up to like 20 GB, and as soon as I emptied it the problem went away. I had to look in the registry for the folder location as it will be something like temporary internet files\H38DGLNXLAI49. I have no idea what is used to generate the last part but it seems random.

It is random. It's a security feature. The idea is that if someone doesn't know the location the temporary files have been stored, they shouldn't be able to execute a file on a system from a web page that was downloaded to the cache, because they don't know the path to the file.

I could be wrong on this one, but doesn't emptying the browser cache also purge the folder used by Outlook?

Nah it doesn't, at least in the cases where it is a problem. I remember specifically trying that.
