Hi Kerio forum folks.

Since upgrading to Kerio Mail 6.6.0, some of my users are getting SMTP (sending) error messages, from the Mac Mail client.

What appears to happen is that SMTP traffic appears to stop, for those users, on port 25, and port 465.

(I've tried issuing HELO commands, via telnet, on those ports, from the affected workstations, with no response from the Kerio box).

e.g.
telnet serverIP 25
then
helo

Other machines respond OK.

Has anyone else had similar problems?
(This one seems to be very intermittent).

I've tried to rule out other factors (firewall, network intrusion devices), but it's hard to remove these totally in a corporate environment! The problems appeared to crop up straight after the Kerio 6.6 install.

Cheers,
Derek

Are they running Leopard (10.5) on their machines? If so have them update to 10.5.5 as it allows for multiple ports for SMTP (25, 465, 587) and will try all of them until it's successful.

Hello.

Oh yes, sorry, I should have detailed the vital stats...

  • Server is Mac OS X Server 10.4.11, G5 Xserve 3GB RAM
  • Clients are Mac OS X 10.5.5. Mixture iMac G5's, Intels (White, and metal/glass ones).

Internal DNS (10.5.5 server) checks out OK. So, I'm following up if our network intrusion device is blocking traffic periodically, in case thats causing the "wild" results from time to time.

Cheers,
D.

I would start there, I have not seen any problems with Mac smtp problems with mail on any of my hosted servers or clients' servers.
