Hi everyone,

I am currently hosting 3 domains on 1 mail server. I have one public static adress. Is it possible to register an multiple PTR records on 1 ip adress. I know you can register one PTR, but if I only got one PTR record of one of those domains..some mail servers will see my emails as spam.because the names doesn;t match.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Cliff

It is enough to have one PTR record. Make it the same as the host name in

Configuration > Domains > Internet Hostname

I am currently using an smtp relay with authentication for those 3 domains. But what I see is when I send an email that differs from the Relay name.. other mail servers sees it as spam. I want that whenever an email is being sent that the PTR is ok so that other servers doesn;t see it as spam.

That's not true. Receiving servers don't compare the PTR with the domain of the sender's e-mail address. What some mail servers do is:

  • Check if a PTR exists. If yes, mail is not considered as Spam.
  • Check for certain patterns in the PTR to dertermine if IP is dynamic. Example: PTR 83-224-43-5.dynamic.provider.com is considered as spammy sender IP.
  • Compare PTR to contents of HELO command (rather seldom). So your Internet Hostname in the KMS config should match your PTR.

If receiving servers would compare the PTR with the domain of the sender's e-mail address, no relay server could deliver any mails because the PTR of the relay server never matches the domain of the sender address.

I think your relay server has another problem which makes your messages look spammy. Perhaps it is on a black list or so.

If you want, you can send me a message through your relay server to help.mail<_a.t_>gmail.com . I can then check if your server is on a list or has other obvious problems.

I normally use the server name / default domain, e.g.

smtp.yourprimarydomain.com

The A record of that name should also point to exactly that IP address, i.e. PTR and A should match.
