One minute iCal was completing the email addresses of users when inviting them to meetings, the next it stopped and nothing I can do can get it working again.

I've tried emptying iCal's cache of recent invitees.

I've tried re-ordering and recreating the Kerio LDAP settings in Directory Utility (Open Directory is also in use - Kerio LDAP is using port 3268).

Any idea what else to check?

Hi there indigospring. Some questions that might help you locate the problem... (in approximate order). We've had some problems with this in the past, but it's usually related to users take computers off-site and back on site (restart DirectoryServices (LDAP)), or password related issues, which LDAP relies on).

Also watch out for LDAP port changes (but shouldn't be too much of an issue if you change the settings each step of the way).

OK, the questions...

Are you using a desktop machine or a laptop (e.g. one that might be disconnected from the network)?

Does the machine go to sleep at all?

Have you changed the user's password recently (that will break the authentication that LDAP uses)?

Have you checked the Kerio Logs, to see if a specific account is giving 'invalid password' errors (e.g. account is locked, by the security policy, and LDAP will therefore no longer work for that user).

Have you tried unlocking all locked accounts?

Have you tried force quitting the DirectoryService service in Activity Monitor? (A new instance will appear).

Have you tried using the Directory app (not Directory Utility) in your Utilities folder (assuming Mac OS X 10.5)

Have you tried deleting the previous mapping in the Directory Utility, and replaced it using the Kerio iCal autoconfiguration tool?

Have you tried rebooting the workstation machine?
(we usually do this first, or after force quitting DirectoryService service -- but obviously not suitable for end-users to do, so rebooting is usually easier).

Hope that helps with some starting points for you Smile.

Cheers,
D.

At least one laptop and one desktop are affected. The desktops do not sleep. No recent password changes. LDAP lookups work just fine in Address Book, and there's a green traffic light in Directory Utility. The Macs were all configured using the autoconfiguration tool and I can see no difference between the Macs that continue to work and those that have stopped. There are no errors logged at the server. And yes we've "tried switching it off and on again" (most of my users have seen The IT Crowd).

I'm pretty sure it's iCal, but I can't see how to get it to continue doing what was working fine.

Hi.

We have the same problem here.
It startet today on one machine and expanded to others in the past hours.
Restart of the kms service on the server didn't help.

Restart of directory services on the client either.
LDAP lookup from address book works flawlessly.
Reconfigure with iCal setup tool didn't fix it.

We had similiar problems in the past but they were fixable with a restart of iCal. The difference was that I got a spinning wheel behind the name the whole time when doing the lookup.
In this case it appears only for a second.

Any ideas concerning that?
