Also posted to microsoft.public.windows.networking.firewall and microsoft.public.security.

In Windows XP, I'm using Kerio Personal Firewall 4. Under Network Security, Applications tab, the Network Security module is enabled. I have a table entry for Firefox.exe designates "Ask" for In/Out access to/from the Trusted Area. For In acces to Internet, I have "Ask", while for Out access to Internet, I have "Deny".

It seems odd that I seem to be able to surf freely without ever being asked anything by the firewall. I used a ProcessViewer prcView.exe to ensure that the path of the executed Firefox.exe is the same as in the firewall entry.

Is there a likely reason why the rule seems to be not in effect?

You should contact Sunbelt Software - vendor of Sunbelt Personal Firewall. Read http://forums.kerio.com/index.php?t=msg&th=8715
