We are a bit behind the times compared to what I have been reading here, but here it goes. We have a Win2K server that has been running KMS for about 9 yrs. Pretty much has been flawless no major issues. I decided to migrate it from Win2K to Win2K3 Server (still behind everyone), mainly because the hardware is old and the OS is beyond EOL. We are hosting 2 domains with about 20 users.

I bought a Super Micro Server with Quad Core processor, 4G Ram, Raid 10 with Windows 2K3 Server Standard. I set the server up installed KMS 6.7 everything seemed ok. Well the problem is the server stops recieving mail after X amount of time. The amount of time is differnet each time. The only way to get it to start receiving mail again is to disable and reenable the NIC card.

I'm not sure if it matters that I set the new server up as a secondary domain controller for our network. I did this to take advantage of the Active Directory interface to make it easier to manage users, passwords, etc.

I'm at a loss since it has been running on an ancient OS and hardware with no problems.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Sounds like a hardware or driver issue with your network card. What happens with other network activity? Can you ping the server, or remote in over the network?

I thought that originally, so I tried a DLink NIC and a 3Com NIC with the same result. I even built another server with different hardware completely with the same result. The only common thing is the OS.

Sorry, pinging still is OK. Didn't try Remote Desktop.

I had a similar problem with a server. What I found was "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" was checked in the Power Management tab on the NIC configuration

Have you checked the event viewer entries around the time when the server stopped receiving e-mail? Any warning or error messages in the application or system log?

I guess you are on the latest Service Pack and hotfixes for Win2003.
