Dear All,

I currently host one mail server with 5 domains configured on it. All those domains are configured on 1 public Ip adress. The designated mx records are also made . So emails are directly received by Kerio MS and also directly send by KMS, because port 25 is forwarded to our mail server. Currently there is an reorganization and I need to split 1 of the domains. THe domain with the users needs to be placed on another KMS. I still want to use the same public adress.

How can I do this?

If I change the default SMTP port in KMS from the new server to 2525. Would this help? When I receive an email how will kerio recognize that he needs to use 2525 instead of 25.

Regards,

Cliff

That is not possible, because you would have to change the MX record for that domain to the new port 2525. But MX records can't contain port numbers.

Well, there are only two options:

1. Use two IP addresses.
2. Configure KMS to forward emails for the email domain to another KMS server.

First option is recommended as it allows beating spams more efficiently.

It is stupid SMTP/MX records, have never been updated to use port information. This would help resolve a lot of headaches as many ISPs block port 25 in order to try to prevent spam.

If you have problems with your ISP blocking port 25, you have the wrong type of service. Only residential packages block 25. You need a business class package with your ISP to host a mail server.

Another possibility besides using another IP address or forwarding from one KMS to another, is to set up a mail server as an SMTP reverse proxy. We have that at one of our clients. They have one public IP for mail and several mail servers on the LAN, each handling different domains.

KMS can't act as a proxy, but Exim can via the hubbed_hosts setup.
