recently went through 4 hellish days after McAfee AV Database version 5748 let through a number of viruses directly to my end users.

if you are experiencing the same, update your definitions database to 5749, that "supposedly" fixes the issue.

Since Kerio might be slow in letting you know about this, I thought I would share

on this note, how is everyone's statistics about virii?

Looking at the log files of one of my customer with a very busy mailserver, it tells me:

checked mails: 254.000-something
found virus in 19 mails

19 mails?!?!

McAfee is 5750 as of now and appears to be working.

It's a Mac only network (with a few Win VMs, but without email access).

Is this normal? It's not even 0,005%. I'd think there are more virus mails out there...

That's almost identical to what I'm seeing. I don't use the AV or Spam features of KMS and instead use a Barracuda, but of the 200,000 emails I process each month, I'm seeing about 0.006% of emails blocked due to viruses.

My guess would be that viruses aren't nearly as interesting or profitable today as phishing, so I suspect the motivation has shifted from giving someone a virus, to stealing their personal information.

But yeah, I'm using a completely different AV product and am seeing nearly identical results.
