Just a quick question, Why do we need to install the outlook connector to talk with kerio, can we just say it's an exchange account like on the iphone?

Also, with the outlook connector why is outlook so slow?

The iPhone uses ActiveSync, a protocol designed for mobile devices. It can't do all the snazzy things the MIME protocol Exchange/Outlook uses.

Here's where the KOC comes in: it converts the open standards IMAP for mail and CalDAV for calendaring KMS uses into the M$ proprietary MIME protocol.

Kerio isn't the only product using an Outlook connector by the way, every other groupware that is not Exchange uses a connector (just look at OpenXchange or Zimbra).
