I have some problems with a kerio mail server hanging or slowing down regularly.

I suspect it all stems from the previous mailserver that had a hard disk failure and after that the all the data was recovered to a new machine.

I believe that possibly some of the email files are corrupt or contain invalid data that may be causing the mail server to hang or slow down every time a folder that contains them is accessed all the file it's self it accessed.

The mailserver has about 500gb of data in it so if this was the case to track down the offending emails would be near impossible.

Does any one have any ideas on how I could check this?

Have you identified the process that is slowing down the server? Could it be that the physical memory gets full and the server starts swapping?

If there was corrupted data somewhere you would normally see it in the KMS error log.

Sorry I did not have a chance to reply. Initially I thought it was the memory, but since then I have upgraded the memory and it now has 10gb in it which is more than enough in my opinion.

I have not identified anything in particular. I have started turning on the debug options, one by one, but so far nothing is showing up.
