Hi,

I have mentioned this before, but just wanted to hear if anyone has found a solution to this HUGE problem.

Apple Mail apparently constructs mail messages in a way that is completely incompatible with Microsoft Outlook. If attachements or images are included inline and not at the bottom of a message, then the message is cut off in Outlook at the first attachment and the rest is included as a ATT*.htm file that is attached to the message.

Our corporate signature includes an image and when replying a message then the reply is cut off after the signature when viewed in Outlook, leaving the older content invisible. This is of course unacceptable and this has forced us to use Entourage for mail even though we would prefer to use the Apple Mail/Address Book/iCal combination.

Has anyone come up with a solution for this? Kerio MailServer is a great cross plaform solution and I guess that a lot of installations serve both Apple Mail and Outlook users so this must be hurt a lot of Kerio users.

I have tested Thunderbird and that doesn't have any problems, so it must be Apple Mail that constructs its messages in a stupid way. Outlook is almost a de facto standard and there's no reason not to play nice to it..

Well, Outlook does not conform to standards, so maybe it's Thunderbird playing underdog to OL?

Outlook thinks to think that it's only the First part of a multipart email that contain the message - and that is simply wong.

Bug M$ about their bugs.. Wink Just because OL is 'the most used' out there, does not make it the correct way to do things.. Sad

Well... it's almost like buying an electric car and saying to all gass stations that they MUST be able to charge the car because it's the most environmentally correct car, and that YOU are doing the right thing and everybody else are wrong.

That's just not how it's working and it's almost the same with Outlook. It might be doing the wrong thing but it's so widespread in use, especially in corporations, that an email application must be be able to work with it. Especially if Apple wishes to penetrate the corporate market, which the Exchange support in snow leopard implies. That they have done so much work with that and simply ignored or didn't discover that Apple Mail is almost unable to communicate in sensible way with Outlook (THE Exchange client) is beyond me!

Oh well.. if only KMS had address book support for Thunderbird then that could replace Apple Mail completely, but I guess it's not going to be simple... We're still tied to Entourage if we want a complete solution for the Mac.
