So, I can't figure out where this is coming from, but there is a typo in our hostname somewhere.

When bounce back emails are sent they are coming from postmaster@mail.doman.com instead of postmaster<_at_>mail.domain.com (get it?)

I've grepped through the mailserver.cfg file and can't find any errors and all our DNS is resolving properly. The server is functioning normally, but this one error is a little embarrassing for our clients.

Any ideas? Thanks!

The Hover postmaster is probably unhappy that you have made his address available for spambot scraping (don't obfuscate, please, but use example.com if you absolutely must), but I digress.

DSNs are sent from "postmaster" at whatever domain the original mail was addressed to. Thus, for a DSN to be sent out with a typo, the domain definition must also have the typo. If it doesn't, maybe you have a mail gateway somewhere? Hard to tell since you camouflaged the domain ...

Isn't "domain.com" the same thing as "example.com"? Razz

This isn't the system's postmaster? It's hostname and dns are all resolving properly as well. The system is only using external DNS and I've verified on the server and on my laptop off-site that our A and MX records are all good as is our PTR.

The typo isn't appearing anywhere in the Administration Console - or the mailserver.cfg

Any other places to look?

I can't find any reference to "postmaster" in the cfg either...

Nope, just like doman.com isn't the same as domain.com Wink

This isn't the system's postmaster?

Sorry about the confusion. The DSN From address is indeed the same across all domains in KMS. I was wrong.

Note that there is no postmaster account by default in KMS, but DSNs works even of you don't create one. The From-address is fake and constructed. The real envelope-address is always empty (Check the Return-Path header in a bounce).

Try the command "hostname --fqdn". If it looks fishy, consult the hostname manpage to find out where the typo is. In /etc/resolv.conf maybe?

hostname --fqdn

Comes back normally.

Everything in /etc/resolv.conf is also normal

How about grepping the entire /etc tree for the incorrect hostname?
(Clutching at straws here ... )

How about looking at Internet Hostname setting in the email domain settings?

The postmaster address is taken from the string you put for the

Internet Hostname

in the Admin Console. So even if you have 20 different domains on KMS, the postmaster domain will always be the same. The Internet Hostname is also used in the EHLO command of the SMTP conversation.

The Internet Hostname can be found in the Console under

Configuration > Domains

In the mailserver.cfg, you should find it in the Misc section:

<table name="Misc">
<variable name="InternetHostname">mail.example.com</variable>
