I have a Kerio Connect account which is 20.8 GB as reported by the Admin Console. The filesystem on the KC server shows 21.23 GB (Mac OS X Server 10.5.Cool.

However, on my local computer (~\Library\Mail) Apple Mail's Exchange IMAP folder is 74.2 GB as reported by the filesystem.

So my questions are:

1. Why is my mail account 3 times larger on my local computer?

2. How can I reduce the size of my mail account on my local computer?

Thanks,
Eric

The problem would be attachment.

If you open your Inbox or Sent Item

/user/library/mail/Exchange-user@domain.com<_at_>mail.domain.com/

You will see 2 folder:
Messages (stocking all e-mail in the emlx format including msg itself and his attachment)
Attachments (duplicate of every single attachment even picture signature)

This is probably why at 99% your Local mailstore is heavier that on Kerio which only store the emlx file alone.

In my case:
Kerio: 2.8Gb
Local: 4.85Gb

I do have a Sh*tload of attachment.

There none the software is made this way.

Microsoft Entourage might use less heavy database.

But Entourage uses a database, so it gives you some other issues...
You could also tell Mail to not cache attachements...
Or you could clean up a bit... Wink
