We have several users who don't wish their email address to be published to everyone else - no problem right? Just untick the box in Kerio admin and they're gone?

Not so. They disappear from CardDAV, webmail and pretty much everywhere else, apart from autocomplete in iCal (set up with the config tool).

I raised a ticket with Kerio (MWW-151793) who told me this was standard behaviour as KC is set up as an Open Directory server.

Has anyone got any clue why anyone would want this?

When you set up a straight LDAP account in Address Book you don't see the users that you've excluded from the GAL, so surely they shouldn't appear in iCal autocomplete. If I wanted them to show up, they'd still be in the GAL!
