I did a exchange migrate 150 user recently The customer has a few groups wich have an ampersand in their email adress. In exchange this is no problem, test&go<_at_>domain.com is a valid email adress. In Kerio Connect this is a problem. Futhermore, wenn I import the distribution groups from ad, the group has no email adress, it is not possible to assign one afterwards. are these bugs or did I miss something? I need help urgently!

Local and Global Security Groups in AD can have mail addresses in Kerio Connect. Same goes for distribution groups. Is the "Kerio Mailserver Tasks ..." menu not visible when you right click on the group in AD Users and Computers? Have you installed the Kerio AD Extensions?

Ampersand (&) is a legal character in an email address localpart. What is the problem, exactly? Does Kerio Connect complain?

Kerio AD ext. is installed, buttons are greyed out. But Kerio told me this item is only visible in web console. I've to try it out tomorrow in the local admin console.

Kerio told me so, my problem is, exchange accepts "&" and those e-mail adresses are public known. Maybe Kerio implements this as a feature (I hope) But it is correct "&" is in an email adress not allowed. Thank you for your reply

Aha. I didn't realise that.

1: If & is a legal char in the RFC's, Kerio need to fix this!

2: The webinterface for Group Admin is brokken in the current version (7.0+)
I haven't tested the 7.1 beta, but the GUI app works - you can assign emailadresses to groups that way. Lucky they still install it... Wink

Have a look at

http://www.remote.org/jochen/mail/info/chars.html

So strictly by the RFCs it is allowed. But it is not recommended. Kerio probably doesn't allow it because it creates a folder with the user name and some file systems don't allow the Apersand character.

Intrestingly, it is possible to create a group with an e-mail address that contains an Ampersand.

So if I create a user or an alias in KC 7.1 Beta WebAdmin Interface, I am not allowed to use the Ampersand, for groups, I am allowed (I have no AD connection).

The relevant RFC also effectively states that allowed characters in localpart is up to the host controlling the hostname part of the address. I suspect it's for the reasons freakinvibe outline.

By the way: Hotmail and GMail is even stricter than Kerio, and Compuserve (back in the 80's) were so strict they were outright silly; their localparts were all numbers Wink
