Hi all,

i got a strange problem with our Kerio Mail Server. The errorlog is full with entries like this:
[29/Jul/2010 10:21:34] FolderGuidIndex.cpp: User user1@example.com trying to access folder '~myself<_at_>example.com/Contacts' with GUID 'b0e54e63-7c31-41c4-9fc7-cadb860e1877' without proper rights
[29/Jul/2010 10:21:34] FolderName.cpp: Empty folder name (user=user<_at_>example.com, protocol=IMAP)
[29/Jul/2010 10:21:35] FolderGuidIndex.cpp: User user1@example.com trying to access folder '~myself<_at_>example.com/Contacts' with GUID 'b0e54e63-7c31-41c4-9fc7-cadb860e1877' without proper rights
[29/Jul/2010 10:21:35] FolderName.cpp: Empty folder name (user=user<_at_>example.com, protocol=IMAP)
[29/Jul/2010 10:21:35] FolderGuidIndex.cpp: User user2@example.com trying to access folder '~myself<_at_>example.com/Contacts' with GUID 'b0e54e63-7c31-41c4-9fc7-cadb860e1877' without proper rights
[29/Jul/2010 10:21:35] FolderName.cpp: Empty folder name (user=user<_at_>example.com, protocol=IMAP)

I don't really know how to handle this error message since my contacts aren't shared. I can't reproduce the error because neither I nor the users t know what they are doing when creating this error message.
It's not top priority for us since there are no further errors, but i am nevertheless interested what this error is supposed to mean and how to solve it.

We use Kerio Mail Server 6.7.3 and our users are useing Outlook 2003 in association with Kerio Connector.

Can someone help me?

Thanks in advance

Obviously, user1 is trying to access your contact folder but doesn't have enough rights.

To check the permissions, right-click your Contacts folder in Webmail and chose "Access Rights..."

And that IS my problem, i am not sharing my contacts and none of the users even has any connection to my account.
It just states in the log when Outlook starts or during their normal work.
No interaction between them and my account or my shares.

That's what bugs me.

Check the folder structure under

C:\Program Files\Kerio\MailServer\store\mail\example.com\user

Do you see any empty folders? Also try to reset the index, that might help to clear out folder problems.

Since we're running our mail server on linux it's quite another folder, but of course i could adapt this.

Which user should i look at? My own account or the user accounts trying to get access to my contacts?

I scanned my own account, but didn't found any empty folders.
I rebuilt the index of my contacs-folder and my main folder. Hope this'll help. If not, i will report here soon.

Doesn't seem to work. I reindexed my contacts-folder, but it didn't do anything. Log says:
[04/Aug/2010 11:28:34] folder_manager.cpp: Cannot create message directory /daten/kerio/mail/example.com/myaccount/Contacts/#msgs: (39) Directory not empty
[04/Aug/2010 11:28:34] folder_manager.cpp: Corrupted folder data were found when trying to open and create folder ~myaccount<_at_>example.com/Contacts
[04/Aug/2010 11:28:34] mail_folder.cpp: Restoring index in folder ~myaccount<_at_>example.com/Contacts. Flags and status information may be lost

Then the "user trying to access folder..."-messages appear again.

Hmm, I am out of ideas. Maybe time to contact Kerio support.

Hate to ask this next question but... In webmail, do you see an expand box to the left of your primary Contacts folder? Likewise, check your Contacts folder on the server. Are there any directories other than #assoc and #msgs? (expanding on Pascal's previous question)

Also, wouldn't hurt to peek in the status.fld file at the root of your Contacts folder on the server. Look for any users listed at the bottom of the file that shouldn't be there.

Note that I'm just guessing here out of curiosity. I don't have a clue why you're seeing these errors.

Based on what you find above, you could try...

In webmail, create a new contact folder at the root level and move all your contacts to the new folder (something like 'Contact-backup').
Make sure the original Contact folder is empty.
Do you continue to have the errors? Did the errors follow your contacts?

Cheers,
Lyle

Thanks for your efforts guys.

The status.fld didn't show any user.

I do have subfolders in my contacts folder. One is my contacts folder for private contacts and one for special, very important people.
I created a new folder in the root directory and moved all my contacts and the 2 subfolders in there.
I will report again if this problem happens again or - if it doesn't - tomorrow.

Bad news, the error still happens. It's still the same message and it didn't wander with the subfolders.
Seems to be not an easy error. Sad

That's not really bad news. It's just the signpost for a possible next step.
Try the following:
Right-click on your original (and currently empty) contacts folder and set access rights to ALLOW those users to read that folder.
Have the users subscribe to, then unsubscribe from, your contacts folder.
Finally, remove the access rights from your contacts folder.

Any reason you're not on Kerio Connect 7.x yet?

Cheers,
Lyle

Okay, I'll try this on monday since most our users are already preparing for weekend and shut down their computers.

We're not on Connect 7 because we had some bad experiences with early version upgrades. So we'll wait some time since the biggest bugs, problems, etc are fixed.
