Hi
I got a problem with one of my users. The problem is that it´s not consistent or the same person he emails.

but he gets the following errors
------------------------------------------------
From: System Administrator
Posted: September 27, 2010 15:11
Subject: undeliverable: Order 81 598

The message did not reach all recipients:

Topic: Order 81 598
Posted: 2010-09-27 15:11

Unable to reach the following recipients:

xxx.xxx <_at_> xxx.com on 2010-09-27 15:11
Unable to send to this recipient from any of the e-mail accounts.
----------------------------------------------------------
After he has got this message he can´t send mail to that person any more on the same day. The next day all i back to normal and then he might have problem sending mail to another person.

This is the only person of about 80 other mailboxes that has this problem.

One other thing, There is nothing in the mailserver logs anywhere what so ever when this error happends. Not even the systemadministrators email sent to the user can be found.

We are running Kerio connect 7.1.0 build 1792

Any help on this matter is much appriciated
/Martin

This DSN message is not from Kerio server. So it is either generated by the sending client itself or by recipient's email server.

is it from KOFF? or what, the message appear one or two seconds after he has pressed the "send" button in Outlook. So it couldn´t be from the recipients mailserver.

This is happening when he sends both to internal mailboxes and external mailservers.

We're using Kerio Connect 7.1.2, Build 2260 on a Windows 2003 server.

One of our Windows 7 Professional with Outlook 2010/KOFF users "Jane Doe" received a similar "Undeliverable" error from "System Administrator" today:

-------------------------------
From: System Administrator
Sent: Thursday, November 17, 2011 11:23 AM
To: Jane Doe
Subject: Undeliverable: Project ABC Followup

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

Subject: Project ABC Followup
Sent: 11/17/2011 11:23 AM

The following recipient(s) cannot be reached:

'smithj<_at_>bigcorp.com' on 11/17/2011 11:23 AM
None of your e-mail accounts could send to this recipient.
-------------------------------

Like martin.b said above, no entries about the "Undeliverable" message appear in our Kerio server logs.

In the user's Outlook 2010, no Internet header information appears in the Properties for the "Undeliverable" message.

Although the "Undeliverable" message itself is visible in the user's Outlook 2010 Inbox, a matching *.EML file for this message is not visible in the user's Kerio mail store INBOX > #msgs folder on the server.

Any ideas about what is generating this message?

There is no SMTP header information in the error mail since it is generated by Outlook. The message is not generated by KOFF, technically speaking, i.e. the error text is from within Outlook. If Outlook for some reason rejects one or more of the mail's recipients, you'll get a message like this.

It's also possible to get this message where the list of failed recipients is blank, if you send to a distribution list, one of the members of the DL is a contact and the contact has no mail address. In the latter case, Outlook tries to expand the distribution list before handing it off to the mail server, but one or more of the contacts returns a null string which Outlook immediately rejects.

In cenoxo's case, the error is likely the apostrophes around the mail address. I.e. the domain bigcorp.com' (note the apostrophe at the end) contains an illegal character.

Our users get these messages from time to time, and it's almost always because something is wrong with one or more entries in the private or global distribution list they're sending to, or alternatively, their autocomplete list.

I just had this error happen this week. Searching Google, it looks like Outlook sometimes does not correctly parse the email address and may leave something like the "mailto:" part in an address. On the user that got this error twice, we just typed in the email address by hand and the email sent without error.

Yes, it looks like Outlook is performing some rudimentary syntax checks on email addresses before they are handed to the mail server. Another clue is that the error message always comes in the language Outlook is in, and - in the usual Microsoft way - is less than helpful Wink

TorW,

Looks like Outlook is the culprit -- thanks for the help in narrowing this down.
