I'd really like the ability to use MP3s for music on hold - to have to upload music in WAV format (or GSM format, but who has music in GSM format?) takes a large amount of disk space to store it. To be able to have music stored in MP3 would cut down greatly on the amount of disk space devoted to music on hold.

I would like to have a rather large music on hold collection so that my callers never hear the same music twice.

Even better to load this from an external source/server elsewhere on the network somehow.

I'm in favour. Try to convert musci (mp3) to wav and gsm. It works, but don't ask what left of the quality Wink

Well, converting MP3 to WAV works, but it's completely the wrong way to do it. Converting to GSM, well my favourite audio conversion utility (Max on Mac OS X) doesn't even give me this option

Ever seen "Switch" for the Mac? It converts into GSM, with pretty decent quality.

Hi,

One note about file sizes: If you do not reduce the MP3 bitrate and stick with the usual 128 kbit/s, this is the same as the bitrate of a WAV file resampled to 8 kHz (assuming 16 bits per sample).

How does one even get Music on hold to work? I have a couple files in the library, they all work with the auto attendant and they are all gsm files, but when I put a call on hold (using X-Lite) I don't hear any music?

That's a good point re: file sizes - however if you reduce an MP3 to mono and 64kbs, it's 1/4 the size.
