My users are having consistent problems accessing our Kerio Connect server from in-flight Internet services, most often when flying Virgin America. They are getting "unable to access server" and "unable to verify account information" errors. They have the same problem whether trying to connect through webmail, a desktop mail client such as Apple Mail, or Exchange accounts set up on their iOS devices.

We generally have our mail server locked down so non-secure protocols aren't allowed to access the mail server.

Just quickly wanted to ask if anyone else out there has run into this problem with in-flight Internet service, whether they block certain ports or protocols, or if there are any known workarounds.

EDIT: The user in question is flying on United.

I don't have any experience with inflight protocols, but my instinct is that it has to do with ports. That is basically all the internet is, a bunch of ports. I would try workarounds like 8080 for http, or 1443 for imap? Based on my network here with our spam filters in front of the mail server, our smtp port is 2525 so clients can still send mail through the spam filter.

Just ideas ...
