I've been happily using Alfresco for three years now but my webguy convinced me to give Workspace a try.

All I need is 1) the ability to share the writing of .doc and .xls files with other users, and 2) archiving/versioning of those documents.

I see Workspace satisfies the second need but what about the first? I can't see any way to checkout or take ownership of a document. How would a user on this site know if the document is being actively worked on?

The Kerio Workspace Client does it for you. It locks the current file and it holds and history of changes done by different people once it has finished.

It works pretty ok.

Hmmm. Unfortunately, I can't web preview uploaded files ("preview cannot be generated"), open with a direct click (same message as above) or edit on the desktop (just hangs while looking for Workspace client). Maybe it's an install problem I don't know.

Thanks for your assistance though.

Hello brudge,

please submit a ticket to our eSupport system. And please include some details on platform you're running on:

- which OS you installed the server?
- from which OS and which browser are you accessing the server (and failing to detect the client)?
