Hi all,

Does anybody have any expierence with setting up a secondary mailserver (backup) besides a kerio mailserver ? Our email is directly pushed to our ip-address. If our mailserver is down for whatever reason the email will fall back to the providers mailserver and it will take days before it will be delivered again. For this reason I want to have a backup mailserver which will collect all email when our primairy mailserver is down and which delivers it directly when it comes available again.

Best regards,

Marcel.

Hi Marcel

Normally this is done with a second MX record in DNS.

Then you have to use the ETRN (extended turn) functionality of KMS to establish a backup mail server. See ETRN documentation in KMS help.

If you need details, let me know, I can help you. (pascal.devries at gmail.com)

So how exactly do I setup the second mail server?

Would I need to add the users domain and details on both the first and second servers?

Anything else I would need to know to have the second mail server fully take over when the first is not available.

Thanks!

Backup MX has saved me a few times. Look into using something like this:

This looks like the service I am after. I am currently using a Pop3 Malibox but it is a pain as Kerio has no automatic sorting.

Can anyone reccomend a UK company that offers this service?

We have Nildram's servers (our ISP) as our secondary MX - works a treat.
Might work for non-nildram customers, but I wouldn't rely on it (they might just turn off the option).
