We have a weird behavior since a couple of days. (windows server 2008 R2, kerio 7.2.3 patch 1)
We can receive emails from everywhere without problem. We can send emails normally without any problem (we did for at last 2 years!). Suddenly when we try to send emails to some addresse (e.g.. all <_at_>freenet.de address, some other, too) we get this error:

<thorsten.twesmann@freenet.de> (mx.freenet.de: 501 <j.twesmann<_at_>star-media.
biz> SIZE=16939: malformed address: SIZE=16939 may not follow <j.twesmann@st
ar-media.biz> )Reporting-MTA: dns; mail.bleicherotto.de
Arrival-Date: Mon, 17 Oct 2011 12:17:43 +0200

Original-Recipient: thorsten.twesmann<_at_>freenet.de
Final-Recipient: rfc822;thorsten.twesmann<_at_>freenet.de
Action: failed
Status: 5.1.8
Remote-MTA: mx.freenet.de
Diagnostic-Code: SMTP; 501 <j.twesmann<_at_>star-media.biz> SIZE=16939: malformed
address: SIZE=16939 may not follow <j.twesmann<_at_>star-media.biz>

This its just an example. It doesn't matter which user is sending the email - it's the same for all. I figured out that it's a kind of DNS problem...
Any guesses?

Thanks
Jens

No, this is not DNS related. Something is adding string SIZE=16939 to senders email address. Enable SMTP client debug log in Connect to confirm.

The server mx.freenet.de advertises support of RFC 1870 (and STARTTLS), but rejects if client tries to use it. It's either misconfigured recipients server or something (antivirus, firewall) is modifying SMTP communication.
