What is the procedure for editing or clearing the automatically completed addresses that appear in the "To:" field?

Depends on the client you use. For Outlook, consult Outlook's manual (it is usually some .nk2 file), for WebMail clear browser form data.

The easiest way to edit nk2 files I've found is with Nirsofts NK2Edit

Huh? The easiest way to edit the autocomplete list in Outlook is to highlight the entry and hit delete. After that, write the correct address once, and it will appear on the autocomplete list the next time. No software needed.

Autocomplete editors are a bit like this: http://xkcd.com/763/

Sadly from my experience this does not work in everycase. Outlook 2010 has a nice 'x' next to the autocomplete entry which does seem to work each time, previous versions of Outlook I've had to use nk2edit.

Pressing the delete key while the autocomplete entry is highlighted, works in both Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2007. I'm not aware of any group policy setting which can disable it either, but if you insist it doesn't work ...

OP here.

I'm using a Mac, so the Outlook tips and the NK2 editor don't work.

Any solutions for Mac users? Thank you!

Apple Mail has its own built-in autocomplete editor. Select Window/Previous Recipients from the dropdown menus and go crazy Wink

Thanks, but I'm using WebMail, not Apple Mail.

Err ... there is no autocomplete in Webmail. You're seeing the browser's autocomplete.

Can you elaborate on how to clear browser form data? Is this done within Safari?
