At first I thought this was a silly question, but then I read http://www.cnngo.com/shanghai/life/150000-chinese-cell-phone s-bugged-146931 and I'm not sure.

My customer called Sophos yesterday and confused them thoroughly. He could not get an answer.

I sent off an email to my nephew who works at Sophos as a Technical Account Manager , but he hasn't responded yet..

I went to http://www.sophos.com/en-us/threat-center/threat-analyses/vi ruses-and-spyware.aspx and put in "X Undercover" - no result..

Anybody have any thoughts?

As Sophos runs on the server and scans the mail queue rather than locally on edge devices, I don't see how it could protect Android (or any other smartphone) from malware (other than those distributed via email).

I'm not sure but maybe there is a security product that can be installed on the Android device itself?

A PC on the network is an "edge" device. There is no conceptual difference between protecting a Windows mail user or an Android mail user. That's what the question is about: protecting from email distributed malware.

I got the answer from my nephew just now.

Their threat database is common to ALL products, so yes, the email will be scanned for Android threats.
