Hi

for weeks now my server (7.3) crashes every couple of minutes (is restarted automatically by monit):

[CET Dec 5 10:10:03] error : 'mailserver' process is not running
[CET Dec 5 10:12:08] error : 'mailserver' process is not running
[CET Dec 5 10:22:11] error : 'mailserver' process is not running
[CET Dec 5 10:23:16] error : 'mailserver' process is not running
[CET Dec 5 10:31:38] error : 'mailserver' process is not running
[CET Dec 5 10:32:41] error : 'mailserver' process is not running
[CET Dec 5 10:34:14] error : 'mailserver' process is not running
[CET Dec 5 10:35:47] error : 'mailserver' process is not running
[CET Dec 5 10:36:20] error : 'mailserver' process is not running
[CET Dec 5 10:37:53] error : 'mailserver' process is not running
[CET Dec 5 10:39:26] error : 'mailserver' process is not running
[CET Dec 5 10:39:59] error : 'mailserver' process is not running

this is just plain ridiculous, I've sent dozens of crash reports, I have open tickets and Kerio Support did not came up with an explanation yet. The server is CRASHING, so it must be a BUG, I can't fix it myself! Plans for migrating out and ask our money back are underway...

What host OS are you running? Is this an upgrade from a previous install of Connect? Have you tried reinstalling 7.3?

It's definitely odd. I haven't seen an issue like that before.

Have you turned on all of the different Messages in the Debug log to see if it can capture something not working correctly?

There is a damaged propertis.fld file in your mailbox. You should see a tons of error messages in your error log. AFAIK the ticket opened in our eSupport has no error log from you. So I think was hard to provide some advice for our technical support in such case.

If they ever asked me for error.log I would have provided immediately. Until now, you were only talking about a settings.usr file. I'll send the error.log right away

Hi,

I hope your issue is fixed in the meantime.

If not; You're talking about VM, which kind of vm (citrix, vmware, etc) ?
I'm not pretty familiar with ubuntu especial not with the monit daemon....
1. Did you disabled all concurrent services eg. sendmail, postfix, ldap/s, apache, etc.?
2. Is it possible to disable 'monit' ?
3. Is there a SELINUX enabled?

Best,
T.

Hi

yes! the support team found the offending file (a properties.fld into, embarrassingly, on of the mail folder or my own user on the server. It's a 180 users server!)

Anyway, the VM (FT-protected) runs on a ESXi 4.1, monit is a very simple monitoring daemon that restarts a process (based on PID) when a condition occurs (in my case, the webmail is not accessible on port 80). And of course it's a plain, fresh install of Ubuntu 10.04 server, only OpenSSH enabled (SELinux disabled).

I'm happy, seems like the crashes are gone! And the support told me the issue will be eliminated in a future version of Connect.
