I've enabled full text search after the 7.3.0 update and let Kerio built its search index. However, that resulted in a broken search. We have a few users for which it works just fine (me for example) and others, where search both in webmail and an offline mail clients only returns a few search result but certainly not all messages for which the current search should be returning a result.

Example: a user has six emails from johndoe<_at_>example.com in his inbox. However, the search in webmail or Thunderbird for "johndoe" only returns three messages.

The index directory is also a bit small for my test. Our message store is roughly 230GB for 80 users, the index is only 2.5GB. The index status according to the admin interface:

Index status: Updating new and changed messages (3089 remaining)
Index size: 2555 MB, 139896 MB of disk space available

The 3089 number hasn't changed for the last hour (or even more, it's possible that it's been like this for ages), and the watchdog soft limit is set to 1GB so that can't be it. Any idea what this could be?

We've had a similar experience. In our case, the indexing never finishes -- the status shows something like "Rebuilding -- 24 users remaining" and just stays there. At that point, maybe because the initial index never finished, full text indexing works up to whenever a user's mail was first indexed, so results from the most recent several days never show up.

A bug ticket was created for 7.3.0 and I was told it was fixed in 7.3.1 but the results are still the same.

Ticket is #NOC-543492

The index status must show:

Index status: Up-to-date

Any other status indicates that the indexing has not finished and you will not get full search results.

If the indexing doesn't finish because of an error, you would normally see this in the error or warning log.

An update on this. One of the kerio 2nd level support guys had me generate a report showing the status of folders, and some of our users had enormous inboxes -- from 70,000 messages to over 190,000. He said the full text probably wouldn't support such large folders, so I created subfolders, moved files to get everybody below 50,000 (the support guy's recommended threshold) and restarted full text.

That seems to have worked, as full text now appears to be working as planned.

And an update on the update. Full text stalled again, so cutting the size of folders did not fix it, or if that is the problem, I didn't go far enough. Anybody else having this problem?
