I'm seeing these errors in the Warning logs when calls come in:

[16/Mar/2012 10:37:53] Operator asterisk[1522]: WARNING[24514]: app_dial.c:2198 in dial_exec_full: Unable to create channel of type \'SIP\' (cause 20 - Unknown)
[16/Mar/2012 10:37:57] Last message repeated 8 times

Other than that, the call process appears to be working fine. Is this one of those messages you just have to live with?

Hi,

This may happen when the phone is temporarily unavailable, for example during reboot. If this happens regularly, I would check the SPA's configuration.

Thanks for the reply. I should have better explained how this SPA is being used. My apologies.

This SPA is being used to gateway the PSTN to VoIP. When I make an external call (cell phone) to the number managed by the SPA, these errors messages are being generated in the logs. Fortunately, the call is still going through, so, the SIP channel must get created eventually.

Outbound calls do not generate this error message.

Hi,

Did you configure the SPA as per https://kb.kerio.com/article/connection-with-linksys-spa3102 -analog-fxs-fxo-to-sip-gateway-179.html or did you use a different configuration?

I followed that link for the configuration. Since it worked, I assumed I followed all the steps properly. It wasn't until I started investigating the logs that I saw there might be a problem.

I have played with a few options while troubleshooting call quality and echo, but I have since reset them all back to defaults.

I am using 5.2.13 on the SPA.

A quick packet capture shows the Request (INVITE) to Operator from the SPA. Operator returns a "100 Trying" packet followed by a "180 Ringing". No more packets until I hang-up and the SPA sends a CANCEL.

The log message shows up during the first 3 packets (INVITE, Trying, Ringing).

So you see this packet exchange in addition to the successful call?

Yes. Packet capture essentially shows (Request:INVITE, 100 Trying, 180 Ringing, 200 OK, Request:ACK, G.711 RTP stream) for a successful call. Right now, I'm only capturing traffic between the SPA and Operator.

While watching the logs, the warning messages show up somewhere in the first 3 packets (INVITE, Trying, Ringing).
