hi All,

I'm facing a weird issue with Kerio Connect message size.
I'm using KM 7.3.1 on CentOS. I have Domain level message size limit to 30MB, I override this setting as per user's role and set it accordingly for individual user. I have set 16 MB as message size limit and trying to send a 14.6 MB attachment in a new mail without any text in it to another user who has 30 MB message size limit, but i get a bounce back saying the message size is too big. I have tried sending the same from Webmail and get the same bounceback.

Any ideas or suggestions..?

Regards,
Karthik S.

Thanks and Regards,
Karthik S.

Internet encoding usually enlarges the attachment by a couple of megabytes. It's probably hitting your 16mb limit.

Hi Glenn,

Thanks for your reply. I have checked that option and further digging into it, i found that the attachment size is of 14.6MB and the mail has no content but in the sent items of my Outlook it shows up as 19MB..!!!

I'm wondering does internet encoding enlarge the attachments to such extent..? or there is something fishy happening on my server which i might have overlooked..?

Thanks and Regards,
Karthik S.

It can enlage attachments by over 30%. The reasons for this is compatibility. Only a limited character set can be used for encoding. From Wikipedia:

Quote:
Email users can be puzzled by these limits because the MIME encoding adds 33% overhead so that a 20MB document on disk exceeds a 25MB file attachment limit.

The obvious solution is of course to advertise a 30 MB size limit, but actually set it to 40.

On a side note: try asking a junior sysadmin how many bytes there are in a MIME-encoded 40MB attachment, and how many bytes it eats up on the disk. With a little luck, you'll get lots of stuff done the rest of the day Wink
