I've set all my softphones and phones to prefer G.722 to gain the best clarity for internal calls. However, as expected, my SIP providers don't support G.722, and Operator is using G.711u for external calls.

While this works, the audio gains a few pops and clicks. When setting the phones to prefer G.711u, these audio defects go away.

Is there a way to optimize Operator for this type of codec conversion? Should I just stay with G.711u for internal calls?

Granted, I haven't done an exhaustive test, but was looking to get an idea of how this should be performing. Or, how was the product designed to operate in such a configuration.

For optimal audio quality, it's best to avoid transcoding altogether. So if you are using G.711u for external calls, use it internally as well.
