I setup a mail server a few days ago and I noticed that my log is showing this kind of messages (No greeting...) quite frequently from some domains...

The server is behind a router (TP-Link TL-WR940N) that is configured to port forward this ports: 25, 995, 465, 587, 110, 143, 993, 443, 80.

I noticed one thing if I want to telnet the mail server that I get from no response the cmd window shows nothing (blank), no greeting!

If I'm telneting from another IP (mail server) that I manage I get the response with no problems: 220 cmail3.webkontrol.doruk.net.tr ESMTP IceWarp 9.4.2; Thu, 07 Jun 2012 14:54:19 +0300
Sent an email as a test and the message went through without problems.

I want to know what I'm doing wrong ? Maybe there are other ports that need to be port forwarded or some other settings ?

mxtoolbox diagnostics shows everything is all right:

OK - 93.110.XXX.XX resolves to mail.domain.com
OK - Reverse DNS matches SMTP Banner
OK - Supports TLS.
0 seconds - Good on Connection time
OK - Not an open relay.
3.042 seconds - Good on Transaction Time

Need som help guys, thank you in advance.

Have you setup a Kerio Connect server? Or what vendor is it from?

Am I right in thinking that you are having trouble sending?

Can you telnet the remote server from your mail server on port 25 ?

Is your DNS OK?

If you cant send, outbound port 25 could be blocked (which some ISPs do. Or it could be blocked outbound on your router.

On the receiving side, port forwarding has no effect.

Can you get a response from the telnet command from another machine inside your network?

Perhaps there is some strange routing going on?

If you cannot telnet from the machine then there is no way that you will be able to send mail to it. This is a not a problem with the mail server but rather a network problem.

I just managed to telnet the example below without issues.

Are you connecting via the IP address or the dns name with telnet?

the ip of cmail3.webkontrol.doruk.net.tr resolves to 212.58.3.63

Does it resolve to this for you?

I don't think Kerio is the issue here.

The thing is I can telnet other domains, but not this one.

I must say it does seem a bit strange.

What does a traceroute give you?

Does it stop anywhere? The last hop I get is 212.58.0.100, which is near enough.

That is about the same as what I get.

Does the telnet just go to a black screen? or does it timeout?

I am thinking perhaps that you are being blocked by the other end. By all accounts it seems that you are able to reach the other end but not connect to it.

if you use a web browser and go to http://mail.asfarma.com does that work? I get a server default page but at least it gives me some information back. Do you get this?

Works fine from here:

# telnet mail.asfarma.com 25
Trying 212.58.3.63...
Connected to mail.asfarma.com.
Escape character is '^]'.
220 cmail3.webkontrol.doruk.net.tr ESMTP IceWarp 9.4.2; Fri, 08 Jun 2012 19:53:25 +0300
quit
221 2.0.0 cmail3.webkontrol.doruk.net.tr closing connection
Connection closed by foreign host.

Likely some local router problem near you.

Could it be that the IP address of your mail server is on a blacklist? Try:

http://multirbl.valli.org/

for testing. Some mail servers don't accept SMTP connections from bad IP addresses.

That would be my guess too. As he can get to the IP address, it shows there are no routing issues, so it must be actively blocked at the remote end.
