Good Morning,

Here is my recurring problem.

Client sends one invite to a meeting, 3-5pm for two of my users.

One user receives the invite perfectly, shows in calendar as 3-5pm.

The other user has the invite show as 1-3pm.

This is a recurring problem, not everytime but often enough to cause some serious problems.

Examining the two .eml files in terminal shows some differences.

The "good" one has some more info than the "bad" one.

BEGIN: VTIMEZONE

| a ton of TZOFFSET info here
|
V

END:VTIMEZONE

I'm (obviously) thinking the differences in the timing of the meeting stems from the differences in these two files. I'm just wondering why one ends up fine and the other gets the incorrect time slot.

Could it be a setting on the "senders" mail system. Could they have my users set as living in different time zones?

Are you looking at the .eml source text in WebMail? If so then does the email that shows 1-3 have the same message ID as the email for 3-5?

Same message ID would indicate the invitation were created at the same time.

Here is part of an email header for an invitation:

Return-Path: <jeff<_at_>example.local>
Received: from [127.0.0.1] ([127.0.0.1])
by mail.example.local (Kerio Connect 7.4.2);
Wed, 15 Aug 2012 16:01:00 -0700
Message-ID: <20120815230100.d3b75218<_at_>mail.example.local>
From: jeff<_at_>example.local
To: velma@example.local, daphne<_at_>example.local
Subject: message ID test two
Date: Wed, 15 Aug 2012 16:01:00 -0700

The Message-ID for Velma and Daphne are both 20120815230100.d3b75218<_at_>mail.example.local.

Do the messages reference a timezone for DTSTART and DTEND in the VEVENT part of the invitation? If there is a reference there to a timezone that is not known by the local computer, and not defined in the invitation some default, probably UTC, is assumed.

I was using terminal to examine the emails directly from the mailserver (osx 10.5.8 is the server). both messages have the same message-ID UID
they both have a DTSTART and END:DAYLIGHT / END:VEVENT.

right at the bottom of each calendar item are these entries:

Good (correct appt)
DTSTART;TZID="Eastern Time (US & Canada)":20120816T150000
DTEND;TZID="Eastern Time (US & Canada)":20120816T170000

Bad (incorrect appt)
DTSTART;TZID="Eastern Time (US & Canada)":20120816T130000
DTEND;TZID="Eastern Time (US & Canada)":20120816T150000

the "good" one also has extra data in it, which appears to be duplicated:
TZID:Eastern Standard Time
BEGIN:STANDARD
DTSTART:16010101T020000
TZOFFSETFROM:-0400
TZOFFSETTO:-0500
RRULE:FREQ=YEARLY;BYMONTH=11;BYDAY=1SU
END:STANDARD
BEGIN:DAYLIGHT
DTSTART:16010101T020000
TZOFFSETFROM:-0500
TZOFFSETTO:-0400
RRULE:FREQ=YEARLY;BYMONTH=3;BYDAY=2SU
END:DAYLIGHT
END:VTIMEZONE

any suggestions would be appreciated.

The extra information in the good example should not matter, because it is not referenced in the event. Events on my box usually have

TZID:Amsterdam, Belgrade, Berlin, Brussels, Budapest, Madrid,
  Paris, Prague, Stockholm

and reference

DTSTART;TZID="Amsterdam, Belgrade, Berlin, Brussels, Budapest, Madrid, Paris, Prague, Stockholm":20120906T150000

Can you check which timezone is on the computers, and also the timezone set in the Webmail settings? I suspect that the good one has it set to "Eastern Time (US & Canada)" and the other one to something different. It would also be interesting to know which timezone is set on the server. Did you try looking at the bad event using the user's account on another computer?

It's crucial to see the whole event source.
Timezone is saved to the event by the client which accepted the event. It could be same as in the meeting invitation but not necessary. We don't even know what client you use.

Both clients are set in the same timezone (Easter Standard)

Hello,

one of our client (on mac os) submitted the same problem yesterday !!
He says the problem appeared in the middle of July

Kerioconnect 7.4.3
User Client MacOS version : 10.6.8

User sending the invitation is one a windows client.

We don't find anything that could be wrong.

Do you solve this problem ?

If yes, how ?

thank

Nope.

The sender (at another company) is not very helpful so i am unable to diagnose anything on their side. The "sending side" is using hosted exchange but that's about all the info i have to work with.

I don't even know how someone could set "contact info" to have someone in another timezone.

This has to be a server side setting, i just can't seem to see it.

I recommend submitting a bug report for this issue: http://www.kerio.com/support/submit-bug-report

You could try disabling the TNEF Decoder and see if the invitation has the correct time in Outlook 2011. In the Kerio Connect WebAdmin, in Configuration -> Advanced Options -> Miscellaneous, remove the check mark for "Enable decoding of TNEF messages".

Then you would need to wait for a new invitation.

disabling the TNEF did nothing to help the problem, but caused far more issues.

My support with Kerio has just run out and i've been told to move away from it (since there are too many unresolved issues).

thanks anyways,
