I'm running the Kerio Control virtual appliance, at the moment in a VM on a Mac mini Server with a quad-core i7 at 2GHz, but am in the process of migrating my VMs on to a dedicated ESX box with a slower CPU (HP N40L with 1.5GHz Turion)

Even on the i7, Kerio Control is only able to deliver around 5MB/sec throughput from the WAN to the LAN - and this is maxing out one core on the i7 at 100% (and the VM is reporting it's CPU utilisation is 100%)

My WAN connection is 100Mbs down, so I'm missing out on up to half the throughput, and if I move Control to my ESXi host, it'll suffer even more.

Are there any parameters that can be tuned in the Control Virtual Appliance (installed from the OVF) that will optimise network throughput for bulk downloads? Would it help, for instance, to bypass the Sophos engine, or simplifying my firewall rules?

Are there any kernel parameters that can be tweaked in the VM to, for instance, increase throughput at the expense of greater RAM usage or anything like that?

I'm able to get 100Mbps through my VM here. Using an E5-2430L on ESXi 5.1. NICs are Broadcom 5720/5721. I don't use Sophos scanning. Most everything else is turned on. Using 8 rules.

However, recommendations in the past are to reduce any scanning, intrusion protection, protocol filters, rule sets, etc. to improve performance.

Thanks for that Silars, I'll turn off AV and see what else I can disable. My rules are pretty simple NAT rules for Kerio Connect on the LAN, so nothing complex there.
