HI,

Have been a long time user of Kerio Connect and had no major issues with upgrades, until Kerio Connect 8.

I have had an issue with system locale(s) in both Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, and Debian 6.0.3. Both fresh new installs producing the following errors. Also my upgraded Kerio Connect 7 Ubuntu working fine for many months started producing the same error after an upgrade to Kerio Connect 8
"Locale support for language C (C.UTF8) is not installed on the system: locale::facet::_S_create_c_locale name not valid"

I have done fresh installs as per the Kerio knowledge base articles
debian x32 - Kerio KB - installation-on-debian-60-32-bit-240.html
ubuntu x32 - Kerio KB - installation-on-ubuntu-1004-lts-32-bit-236.html
also producing the same error.

After many many hours of research it narrows done to an issue with the bundle myspell in Kerio Connect 8. Am i the only one having this issue appearing in the Kerio Connect WARNING logs? Please provide some feedback if you are / are not having this issue on Kerio Connect 8 on linux?

Thanks and appreciate your time in answering..

It seems to complain about C.utf8, which you seem to be missing. Why it doesn't depend on C alone is not clear to me.

I'm running the Kerio Connect on the Kerio VM appliance (Debian version), and I'm experiencing the same issue: my warning log filling with pages and pages of "Locale support for language C (C.UTF8) is not installed on the system: locale::facet::_S_create_c_locale name not valid"

In my case, it didn't come with Kerio connect Version 8. I upgraded to that a week ago. This message started after I did an "apt-get upgrade".

So... It isn't necessarily connect version 8, but more likely something in version 8 combined with the newer linux files (the upgrade included not just a locales package, but libc-bin and linux kernel packages. The libc-bin since ver 2.13-1 has had C.UTF8 support, but I don't know which version Kerio actually ships with their VM appliance.)

While it may not be directly due to the Kerio Connect version 8 upgrade, it is still an issue with version 8 running on the Kerio Connect VM Appliance

Mid 2015: Quit Kerio and moved to Exchange 2013 and Meraki.
Kerio Control 8.4.0--Used since it was WinRoute, many years ago
Kerio Connect 8.4.0 on Ubuntu. Bought Connect just in time for the switch to NO SUPPORT(aka pay for support). Not. Happy.

There seems to be a problem with daemon init script, because on Debian an Ubuntu the system does not set correct locales for processes started by init daemon.

Workaround:
Edit the startup script:
sudo vi /etc/init.d/kerio-connect
and add following lines before line 'unset DISTRIB_ID':

# Make sure Kerio Connect is started with system locale
if [ -r /etc/default/locale ]; then
. /etc/default/locale
export LANG
fi

This happened to me today, too. Per some of your comments, we're on 12.04 of Ubuntu and I just did an apt-get upgrade today, plus updated to Kerio Connect 8.0.0, all due to some sluggish iCal performance on my clients and "mailserver" eating up around 450% CPU. I started seeing this error, "Locale support for language C (C.UTF8) is not installed on the system: locale::facet::_S_create_c_locale name not valid" and found this thread. I have attempted the shell script solution provided by Pavel Dobry and so far, I have stopped seeing the error. CPU levels are quite reasonable, but it is the end of the day.... Maybe some of you others should try it and see how it works, then report back? I'll try to post again tomorrow...

I'd like to mention that this error appears only on Linux and only when custom spam rules for message body are configured in the product. Kerio Connect 8 brings support for letter capitalization in custom spam rules according to server system locales (which is important eg. for Russian characters).
So the error in fact means that custom rules in Connect 8 work exactly the same way as in Connect 7.4.x.

The message is no longer being logged, but unfortunately, our organizations problems with sluggish performance remain. CPU is up in the upper 400% area and our calendars on OS X v10.8 are rarely finishing their updates. It's probably not related to the problem outlined on this thread.

Hi All

I am looking for an update, now we are in 2016 and using Kerio 9.0.3 I am a little surprised that I am seeing this error in my logs.

Given all the previous comments I am wondering if anyone else is seeing the same or was this issue only way back in 2013 ?

"Locale support for language en (en_US.UTF8) is not installed on the system: locale::facet::_S_create_c_locale name not valid"

I do not really want to waste time researching this if it is a known issue, but this thread is the top of list on Google and nothing else seems to relate directly.

This message is only appearing since this morning when I migrated by copying the kerio/mailserver directory from the old server to new and ran a fresh install of 9.0.3 over the top of the new server which is Debian 8.

[Updated on: Sun, 04 September 2016 13:28]

cheers

Have you installed locale support for all langagues that can be used by your users? Please make sure you follow all steps described at http://kb.kerio.com/product/kerio-connect/installation-and-u pgrade/installing-kerio-connect-on-debian-8-1909.html

Pavel, do you have similar KB-article to CentOS 7 also? Is the "install locales-all" the solution to this problem?

No, this is for Debian only. For details about locales on your operating system please read documentation for Linux system you are using.
