I have a user that let me know that some files are missing, no big deal will just run recovery with latest backup right? Nope she said things went missing ages ago (looks like she deleted 95% of the data that was there and never mentioned it for months, meaning it will not be in the current backups sets i have kept. I dug up a year old backup that should have the right mail data for that user. Is there a way to do a differential recovery from an old backup while keeping current data in the folders/mailboxes etc, or keep everything that is on the mailstore for that user and just add the data from the backup?

Hi Mirek,

Please have a look at our knowledge base article :

http://kb.kerio.com/product/kerio-connect/server-configurati on-kerio-connect/examples-of-data-recovery-in-kerio-connect- 1141.html

That link doesn't answer the question and I have something very similar coming up.

Customer is moving Connect to a new server. Big Store directory.

Can he take his current backups (full and differential) and do that recovery now on the new server and then, a few days from now, recover ONLY the differentials that happen after those? That's something that is not clear in the docs.

This happens to be Linux to Linux so I'll use rsync instead, but this could be important elsewhere. Note: either way, documentation needs to make it clear.

None of the backup recovery options will merge the backup with the existing mail store. The backup recovery will replace the existing mail store.

This means if you recovered a full backup and a few days later you did a recovery on the differential, the data in the differential would replace what was restored from the full backup.

You will want to recover from the full and differential at the same time.

Leave the old mail server running and create the full backup.
Move the full to the new server.
Once that is done, stop all of the services and schedule a differential backup.
Stop Kerio Connect completely on the old server after the differential finishes
Copy it over to the new server.
Restore both the full and the differential.

You will have some downtime.

For the initial problem, you could restore the user's folders to an alternate location using the -s switch. You can find the missing items and, after stopping Kerio Connect, copy them to the appropriate folder and reindex the user's set of folders.

Yeah, that's what I thought I remembered. The docs and kb should state that plainly.

Though really, that should be fixed. No other backup I know of is so inept.
