I like Kerio Control because it will use my Apple Open Directory server for account management. All the authentication is handed off to OD.

The QOS implementation was also a selling point for me.

You can find further features and some comparisons here: http://www.kerio.com/control/literature

We use PFSense and Kerio Control for ourselves and our customers. PFSense is a great solution as it provides the framework for setting up solid setups. Kerio Control does well in that it makes complex setups and management easier. It's worth the extra cost if you can swing it.

if you have fast internet above 400 mbit/s
if you don't have needs for: user statistic, forbid pages for all/group of users, antivirus front of clients, page caching, simple QOS, multiple internet connections, and similar good things what Control can provide you, etc..., and to spend money. stick with mikrotik.

Question cannot be stupid, but some of the answers can.

Dear Goran there is misunderstood here , I'm not promoting mikrotik or any software or hardware . My main goal is to compare kerio with other cause i'm really confused as i said before Kerio is super easy , Please share your experience with me in technical way .ex: Which one is stable , fast with 200-1000 users .

Hi Amaduios,

SC Magazine has reviewed Kerio Control in their March issue. It was part of a group UTM test and I'm happy to report that we got five stars (out of five). Check out the link below to read the full review.

Hi Gents!

I am supervising a small network (100 clients; different VLAN's going trough a limited network connection). This software is brilliant! It is installed on a domain controller in a virtual "box". Now I can allocate bandwidth to each user/group/vlan and monitor the activity... I am lucky because my budget allowed this software... Definitely worth to try and use it! However I got a lot of questions, but slowly getting there! Thank You KERIO!

Hi Jonas Rodrigues (Kerio)

First let me congratulate you for the five stars , the article is good but no technical information too. okay i searched for what is UTM means here what i found
"a UTM appliance is something that offers Intrusion Protection Firewall, Anti-Virus, Anti-Spam, and Traffic Control features. Beyond this core protection, a UTM appliance generally includes some enterprise operation capabilities, such as load balancing, fail-over, and network wide caching and monitoring."

And hope you will check this link about how to make a solid firewall with pfsense for free http:.....//www.smallnetbuilder.com/security/security-howto/ 31406-build-your-own-ids-firewall-with-pfsense
then how to build your own utm with pfsense for free http:......//www.smallnetbuilder.com/security/security-howto /31433-build-your-own-utm-with-pfsense-part-1

Now let me ask again why should i use kerio Oh sorry why should i pay for kerio just for the easy admin graphic or there is some thing speacial in kerio? pls talk about it in details.

I guess if you "just" a system admin and not network installer or not familiar with command line configuration in Linux and switches and routers that is the way....
As I said before I have to deal with a lots of other roles so no time to learn from scratch how to configure my whole network... plus as far as I know on layer 3 level I can't deal with QoS or at least not as I would like...

1. Kerio Control is a perimeter network firewall. It does not see and can't block traffic and packets in your LAN (unless the LAN is routed via the firewall computer).
2. http://forums.kerio.com/t/23876/block-hotspot-shield-
3. System requirements can be found on Kerio website: http://www.kerio.com/control/technical-specifications The requirements depend on services you use (antivirus, IPS etc.) and bandwith of your internet connection. Any PC with i5 and higher should be enough.
5. There is no known way how to bypass the system if it is correctly configured. However, some applications like Hotspot shield can tunnel the traffic over ports for other services.
6. No, Bandwith limiter is per service or server. It cannot distinguish users. Only IP addresses and services (ports).
7. The license is for defined number of users (not unlimited). With one-year Software Maintenance you can upgrade to new versions for free within that time.

And need to tell you it's so hard to found tutorials explaining Kerio control in En (sorry but the tutorials on the site is not covering every thing )why do not you start a tutorial about kerio control guiding us step by step in configuration , admin , security
in mikro..k I used to make vlans so any arp spoofer can't see it should i do the same here.

Slight correction - BW limiter can limit per authenticated user, service, IP or a combination of them.

Configuring network firewall is complex task and require certain level of TCP/IP network and product knowledge. That's why we have a network of partners worldwide who are certified to install and maintain our products.

If current available documentation is not giving you all the answers, I'd suggest to contact one of our partners - http://www.kerio.com/partners/locator/search They have a lot of experience and will be happy to help you.
