hi There,

Does anyone face issues with delay in receiving mails..?

I have a situation where few mails (for sure, not all mails) from a gmail gets delayed. the sender receives a notification saying the mail is delayed with the below mentioned message
"
Technical details of temporary failure:
Connection was dropped by remote host (SENT_MESSAGE): Connection reset by peer
"
After 4 days the sender will receive a failure notification with the same technical details.

Could someone help me to get to know what does this mean and where could be the problem possibly..?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Karthik

Hi Karthik,

Have you tried enabling the 'SMTP Server' debug logging to see if the emails from Gmail accounts are even reaching your server? If you haven't you can enable the debugging in the following way:

Within the Web Admin, go to Logs -> Debug
Right-click in the right window
Left-click on 'Messages'
Enable SMTP Server
Click OK
Right-click again and click on 'Clear Log'

You can then get some test emails sent from Gmail and look in the log to see if they actually reach the Kerio Connect server. This may help shed some light to see if the problem lies with Kerio or else where.

All the best,
Vicky

Emails from Gmail are also delayed because lot of Gmail servers are registered SPAM servers. This of course caused by the many SPAM mails that is send by Gmail "fake" accounts. Used by MAIL and Forum SPAMmers.

So look in your security log and look for SORBS messages.

Hi Vicky and Carlo,

Thanks for your reply.

Not all mails from GMails are getting delayed like this.
I had enabled SMTP debug log and checked by sending few test mails which came through my mail server.
Weird part was, we are receiving other mails from the sender whose first mail was delayed and never delivered. 1 in 10 mails (in a week) will be delayed and creates a mess.
As we are not sure when exactly the issue arises, we cannot keep the SMTP debug logs enabled. But, we are sure that it is caused from one particular GMail ID.

Have checked Security, SPAM, Warning logs but no signs of the delayed messages.

Thanks and Regards,
Karthik S.

Gmail is using a huge bunch of IP addresses randomly. Possible, that some are blacklisted when the sender tried to send you an email and next time another IP address is used which is not blacklisted.

if sender's IP address is blacklisted, the sender would immediately receive a bounce back saying your IP is blacklisted or found in SORBSDNS etc.. and logs can be found on security or spam.
but, this case is different, Sender receives a warning notification after one day saying your mail is delayed and after 4 days the sender receives a permanent failure notification.

Does this have anything to do with the DNS entries for the mail server..? any ideas or suggestions..?

Thanks and Regards,
Karthik S.

I am not a Kerio expert but I would look into the blacklist section and make a whitelist rule for that specific email address. This would possibly be a quick fix but doesn't explain the issue.

As for why it is happening, that is tough to say. I have a few domains that we normally send/receive email from that use the really awesome, no maintenance, access it from anywhere, zero down time, professional support, HOSTED EMAIL SERVICE Laughing and that is a huge pain. I see the similar issues to what you are stating. The same email account will send us an email every 5 minutes for an hour and I record 6 to 10 different IPs (some will be blacklisted).

Just to be clear, the gmail account is the one that is getting the delayed message? And do you have anything in front of your Kerio server acting as a filter? And what version of Kerio are you running?
