is it possible to implement gzip compression for the webmail interface?
over an isdn (64k) connection the
webmail interface is much slower than on kms5

in kms6 is no possibility to change the imap folder names.
eg. in thunderbird the folder name for trash is "Trash" an cannot change to "Deletet Items"
in KMS5 it was possible to change the foler names to your needs.
do you plan to bring this functionality back?

It'd be possible. Kerio would just have to code the gzip support into their web server component. Most (all, I think, actually) modern web browsers support GZIP compression, even IE. The one big stumbling block I see to this is the increased CPU load put on the web clients. On modern computers, the user wouldn't really notice a slowdown, but folks on older machines definitely would.

But it's an interesting idea. The new webmail interface definitely is a lot slower than the old one. I think it's largely due to the increased number of IMAP operations being performed by the webmail code.

Kerio could always implement GZIP compression and give an option in the webmail prefs for each user to turn it off. ;-) You can tell Kerio is aware of the slowness problem because they switched to using the Zend Optimizer in RC1.

Perhaps better than the GZIP compression idea, is Kerio implementing "IMAP proxy" functionality into their software (ala the open source imapproxy or similar). I implemented an IMAP proxy on my personal server, and noticed a *huge* speed-up with squirrelmail.

Hmm, this isn't a bad idea, actually. You wouldn't even need Kerio to implement it directly. You could set it up on the mail server transparently, and have it point to KMS.
