hi,

we have planned to migrate a customer from an exchange server to kerio connect (approx. 12 user accounts). so we know about the migration tool but our question is if there is another scenario also possible or what is the best way.

is it possible to first switch to kerio connect and import the mails from the old exchange after the switch. does the migration tool check that domain and users are available on the kerio machine already and import the mails correctly to each user.

other question: could KOFF be installed beside the exchange account in outlook? so that we could switch by hand the mails in outlook from one account to the other for each user? or is it not possible to use KOFF and exchange in the same outlook on the client?

we never had done this before - what is the best solution to change. what are your experiences with this? what happens if for some reasons the migration tool crashes before all is migrated?

You could create the users in Kerio Connect, and then get each user to export their email to a PST file, then once you hook them up to their Kerio Connect accounts via Outlook, just import the PST.

If you create a new profile for their Kerio Connect account, you can always switch between Outlook profiles to access Exchange or Connect.

Just a thought..

Ad migration:
Yes, you can first switch to Connect and then migrate old messages from the Exchange (it's recommended). KEMT checks if the user exists on the server (comparing by e-mail address) and if so, uses existing mailbox. Messages are never deleted, only added.
If KEMT crashes, you can start migration again and select only not-yet migrated accounts. Unfortunately there is no way to compare existing messages, so probably some messages in the mailbox where KEMT crashed will be duplicated. Or you can delete migrated messages (e.g. using Connect Client) before restarting migration.

so I think we make the step in exporting the exchange into a pst and than import the pst to kerio for each user ...

could this scenario also be done for the contacts and the calendar of the user - or how do I transfer this by this way ...

migration tool does not work because of some firewall restrictions in the network of the exchange customer ...

so could you please explain the steps for the contacts and the calendar - than all will be fine.

I will not put the contacts in the public folder - it should be transferred into the contacts of each user/mailbox - calendar also ...

When you use Outlook to export an Exchange mailbox, you are also able to export the calendar and contacts of that user at the same time. When you import them back into Outlook (after connecting to Kerio Connect), it should repopulate your calendar and contacts automatically.
